About Yonsei Astronomy
Now in the beginning of 21C, mankind can finally explain the development of the Universe within the big bang paradigm. It is our next aim to understand the origin of stars, galaxies, planets and life in this paradigm, and thus countries worldwide are investing more time and resources in the field of astronomy and space sciences than ever before. Korea is also actively participating in the Great Magellan Telescope (GMT) Project that is being constructed to be the largest telescope in 2020, along with the US and Australia. The great observatories of JWST, TMT, ALMA, SKA, etc. are under construction as well: we are living through a time of astronomical “big bang” expansion. In addition, satellite sciences such as manufacturing, maintenance, and application are also on the current and future focus. We are actively engaged in the education and research in the fields of galaxy formation and evolution, stellar evolution and population, astronomical optics, and satellite sciences in timely and necessary fashion, under the constructive support from large government projects such as BK21Plus and SRC.
